Auxiliary Lift-Axle Suspensions

Reyco Granning introduced its new LiftMaster family of auxiliary lift-axle suspensions at the recent Work Truck Show— the ALAP-13 in both steerable and  non-steerable models. They’re designed for the class 7/8 market and are rated at 13,200 lb capacity.

The new models take the place of previous Reyco Granning models L132 (steerable) and L130 (non-steerable).

The company says it was able to reduce weight by 75 lb in the steerable version and approximately 100 lb from the non-steerable version. The weight reduction did not prevent passing the most stringent tests for vertical, lateral and longitudinal forces.

Customer feedback played a role in the steering stabilizer design. The company claims that some customers complain about self-steering auxiliary axles that use a coil spring for stabilization, saying that the coils can become packed with mud or concrete and become inoperative. A horizontal shock damper can also have issues, it adds.

Reyco Granning solved the stabilizer issue with a large Bilstein gas-charged, monotube steer damper. It’s said to eliminate heat build-up and cavitation and maintains constant control of the steering mechanism.

Other LiftMaster standard features include an automatic lift function in reverse.
